The philosophy behind the SWAR Music School is to spread the knowledge and interest in Indian Classical Music. The School follows the following principles:

  • The emphasis is on getting the designated portion of the class completed.
  • We start with a quick review of SwarMallika and then move on with the Raaga curriculum.
  • We follow "Bhatkhande padhati" and the course schedule from Gandharva Sangeet Vidyalaya.
  • Each class consists of 3 segments.
    • First we review the previous session and any practice recommended.
    • Second we introduce the new material for the same Raaga or a new one depending on where we are in the process.
    • Last segment is for going over the practice required for the upcoming week and extra material.
  • We encourage students to make their own notations and cover more than one khayal in rach Raag to emphasis on the richness of it.

The classes are 1 hour in duration and range from group lessons to private lessons and special kid lessons. The classes are designed to encompass not only the basic knowledge and techniques of classical singing but also, encourage students to question certain norms and think independently.
